BABYWEARING IS FUN, FUN, FUN.
I am a huge, huge fan of baby-wearing. There is a whole cult of baby-wearers. I think baby wearing is more common today than it was 7 years ago.
When Boo was born, and I began my mothering journey, I was told to go and buy a sling. I had no clue really what a sling was but the lactation consultant told me I could find it at toys r us. So I went out and got one of these http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2663262 . Mine was a little different and was blue. But still the same idea.
When Smally came around she lived in that thing. She was so cozy and happy. Also it was winter so that helped. She was safe and secure by her mommy.
Well, let me tell you my eyes were opened by the time Dirt arrived. My mother bought me(upon my request) a ring sling. At first I hated the thing. I didn’t understand it. I couldn’t get Dirt in it fast enough and I wanted nothing to do with it. But, by the time she was 3 weeks old I loved it. We had to walk Boo to the bus stop for school and I would just throw her in that and she was happy as can be. It was awesome. I wore her constantly.

I enjoyed wearing her. It was a huge bonding experience for us. But it was also nice to have 2 free hands to tend to my other 2 kids and clean.
I wanted to have a variety of colors to wear so I learned how to make the slings. One thing led to another and I began making them for people. I loved doing it. It was fun to sew different fabric choices, I would imagine how it would look on that person, or have an idea of what that person was like. You can tell a lot about people by the type of fabric they wear.
As Dirt grew we tried different positions This was one our favorite positions in the ring sling

I wanted to try a different carrier. Actually my cousin wanted a baby hawk carrier. I thought I can make that. So I took some fabric and gave it a whirl. Not exactly a baby hawk but it worked. Here we are in the tester
it seemed to work so I made my cousin one, and a ring sling. I was so excited, to make something new.
When noodle came around I started him in the sling. He loved it at first, but now with his whopping 25lb self I find it harder to carry him. I need more support. He didn’t fit like this anymore
. It was time for something new. First we tried this made by me mei tei
. It worked well enough but I wasn’t happy with it. So then I had a friend on my cloth diaper board loan me her wrap.
, I liked it but with 4 kids I found it hard to do in a hurry and I wanted something a little easier.
So another friend on my diaper board loaned me this dandy thing http://www.connectababycarrier.com/ . I loved it. It is easy enough for me to use and fast. I love putting Noodle on my back and he is so calm and relaxed in there.
There are so many other styles and brands of carriers. I think there is something for everyone.
Wearing a baby is important. I believe it helps both the mom and baby bond. It reminds the baby of being inside the mom. The rocking motion helps soothe a child.
So whether it be a ring sling, Mei tie, conecta, didymos, moby, bjorn. I think there is a carrier out there for everyone.
