When Your Child Gets Sick

Published by crystalmaroo at 6:49 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Every mother worries a little when her child gets sick.

I hate to see my children sick.  They look so pitiful laying there on the couch or in their bed.  So helpless and sad.  And there isn’t much you can do for a sick child other than hug them and give them medicine.  But sometimes the best medicine is love.

Since Thursday every one of my children have been sick.  It all started with Dirt.  She had a mad cough, so crazy that she would puke from coughing so hard.  Now that is some fun times.  I took her into the Dr. because she was running a temp.  He said it was bronchitis.  So we got some amoxicillan and started her on that.  Today she is back to her normal crazy self with a cough.  But she doesn’t look so sad today.

Then Friday both Noodle and Boo were feeling ill.  Noodle wasn’t so bad but since it was the weekend I took them both in.  Boo has an inhaler now.  He has been coughing pretty much since fall.  Mostly when he is active or sleeping.  We are thinking asthma, but will re touch that one next month.  The Dr. of course didn’t want to give Noodle anything, and that was ok, I was to try to make sure he stayed hydrated and ate enough.

Saturday comes and Smally was running a little temp and coughing.  So I just have her be lazy all day.  Noodle was still feeling icky too, he had a slight temp but was ok.

Fast forward to today.  Smally went to school, she is ok, she is one tough cookie.  Boo stayed home, he likes to play the sick part and is dramatic, but you can see it on his face.  He simply didn’t feel good.  Dirt is fine, except the lingering cough, but she will be ok.  Noodle however is not ok.  He has a temp. and is very wheezy.  So off to the Dr. we go.  This makes 3 visits in 5 days.

So we get to the office, and the nurse notices that he was wheezy.  She took his oxygen and it is at 87.  EEP!  That is low.  So the Dr. comes in.  We have to go to the hospital and they are going to suction his boogies out every 6-8 hours and give him breathing treatments.   Poor guy.  I know he doesn’t feel good and he has a cough from Hell.

So while my older 3 can at least tell me a little about how they feel Noodle can’t.  He just sits there.  Whiney, and snotty, and coughing.  It breaks my heart and I know when we go to the hospital I will be so sad that he is going through all that.

So I am sure that when your child gets sick you worry.  You worry if he/she is ok, if they have something bad and how bad the sick really is.

It is normal for mothers to worry about their children when they don’t feel well.  I don’t think I am a worry wart, but lately I feel like I have become one.  I just don’t want my children to suffer.

I simply can’t wait until spring when we get over the sickies.  Then it is bring on the allergies.   I guess once your child starts school or daycare, you are never fully better, it is always one germ after another.
